OUR JOURNEY
“This is our journey, this is you, this is me, this is we, this is us, this is life, this is ecstasy and woe, this is our energetic dance through layers of matter and space, this is our return to love.”
~ Rachel Elizabeth Schaf

April Showers of Blessing
Special thanks to our good neighbor Jay Carbutt and his helper, Jack, who made the trek down from Pennsylvania to complete the installation of the Mini Splits! I am ecstatic to say we now have heating and air conditioning, WOOT!
A day of Wine and Roses
We hosted our very first wine tasting!
It was a fine range of drink for eight worldly-wise palates, encompassing avid wine-drinkers and the occasional sippers, all of whom shared candid commentary and authentic reviews.
The Art of Being Alive
We pray for speedy recovery, we “roll with the punches”, and we continue to see life as beautiful regardless of our circumstances…this is the art of living.
Crew of two, we get $h!t done!
Moving over 70 tons of concrete, gravel, and dirt, we formed and poured the 24x40 concrete pad where our future garage/winery will sit. We also dug and poured a footer in front of the house where we will be extending the porch. Let me just say, laying concrete is not woman’s work, at least not me, and I have the utmost respect for those who do it every day for a living (I had to look up the stats: 2.9% of all concrete workers in the US are women, while 97.1% are men).
Demolition Duo
The past two years have certainly served as a reminder, how often we take things for granted, like the commodity of running water/electricity, and how much we have to be grateful for each and every day.
A Few Steps Closer
As we head into the month of July, we are counting our blessings! So grateful for traveling mercies this week, for helping hands, for shared memories, and for the accomplished work. While we know the road ahead is long and we have so much more to do, it sure is a pleasure to look back at how far we have come!
My Musings
Diligent Hands
“Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth.” Proverbs 10:4
The Tennessee Trio
This marks the fifth working trip to our Poor Valley Creek property over the course of thirteen months. Each visit is a total of twelve hundred miles (six hundred each way) and most folks could not begin to fathom the amount of time, planning, preparation, physical labor, and money invested with each visit. It has truly been a test of endurance, perseverance, and patience!
Top 30 Inspiring Women To Look Out For in 2023
Honored and beyond excited to have been selected alongside these amazing women in Entrepreneurs Herald’s feature: “Top Inspiring Women to Look Out For In 2023”
Wildlife Visitors
We placed a camera on our property in September and it’s been fun seeing some of the first wildlife visitors that have passed by!
Slow and Steady Wins the Race
Dave and I were headed to Kentucky to attend his nephew's wedding last weekend; we used some vacation time to stop in Tennessee and get a little more work done at Poor Valley Creek Vineyard. Board & batten siding and soffit and fascia...as much as we could get done in 3 days!
Ghostly Reflections
Have you ever seen or met a ghost when you’re fast asleep, that is, in a dream? A “visitation dream”; clear, vivid, intense, experienced as a real visit when you awaken from it, feeling changed by the experience.
Fire Flies
I was so happy to see firefly’s in Tennessee!
Anniversary to Remember
Within their first five days on the job, our floor plans began taking shape and I was excitedly AMAZED by their progress despite all the structural damage they uncovered and had to address within the existing house.
“Wings for Success”
reflecting on the sort of love that gives human beings wings to rise above it all
A Strong Foundation
As the sun dipped behind the mountains, we opened a bottle of wine, filled our red solo cups, and toasted to the start of our working weekend. Before calling it a night, we sat on our old porch swing and watched the moonrise (it was almost full) while listening to a soothing katydid chorus and rhythmic calls from a lonesome whippoorwill.
Love Drunk
Of course, our wedding gift for the lovely young couple’s exclusive and intimate event was WINE, two varieties made with lots of love!
Jack of all Trades
The hubby never rests, he is a SUPERHUMAN! Between his full-time job and continuous projects on the home front, six out of seven days a week he only gets three hours of sleep per night. Thankfully, he is a “closet” carpenter, a “jack of all trades” really, and he can build ANYTHING he sets his mind to…So now we have a wine rack!
2022 Cabernet Sauvignon has Been Bottled!
Did you know? In the 1630’s, stoppers were made of oil cloth, pieces of wood, and glass?
